Adoption Policies & Terms

 

Our Commitment

At StormHaven Rattery, the health, temperament, and well-being of our rats are our highest priorities. We work carefully with genetics, socialization, and responsible breeding practices to produce healthy, well-adjusted companions. Our goal is to ensure that every rat is placed in a safe, knowledgeable, and loving home.

 

Adoption Process

Potential adopters will be asked to complete an application and possibly participate in a brief discussion about their experience and housing setup. This helps ensure that our rats are placed in homes that can meet their social, environmental, and dietary needs.

Rats are placed on a first approved, first reserved basis, though priority will be given to site members & homes that best meet the needs of a particular rat or pairing.

 

Deposits & Reservations

A deposit of 25$ per rat will be required to reserve a rat.

Deposits hold a specific rats for a limited period of time. The remaining balance must be paid prior to or at the time of pickup unless otherwise arranged.

A waitlist fee of 20$ or joining our website (for free) is required to be placed on the waitlist after your application is approved.

If the adopter cancels their reservation, deposits are non-refundable.

If StormHaven Rattery cancels the reservation, any deposit or waitlist fee received will be refunded.

 

Right to Refuse or Cancel a Sale

StormHaven Rattery reserves the right to refuse or discontinue a sale or adoption at any time if we believe the placement may not be in the best interest of the animals or if the adoption process is not proceeding in a respectful and cooperative manner.

If a reservation is cancelled by StormHaven Rattery, any deposit and or waitlist fee that has been paid will be refunded in full.

 

Health & Care

All rats are raised with careful attention to health, diet, and socialization prior to leaving the rattery. We strongly recommend that adopters schedule a wellness exam with an exotic veterinarian within the first week of bringing their new rats home.

Proper diet, housing, enrichment, and veterinary care are essential for maintaining your rat’s health.

 

Health Guarantee

StormHaven Rattery provides a 180-day (6-month) guarantee against congenital, hereditary, or temperament-related defects.

​

To keep this guarantee valid:

• A wellness exam with an exotic veterinarian should be completed within 14 days of adoption.

• Documentation from your veterinarian may be required.

• Proof of proper housing and care may be requested.

This guarantee does not cover respiratory infections or  (URIs), tumors or illnesses that may occur due to environmental factors, stress, or exposure after leaving the rattery.

 

Quarantine & Introduction

For the safety of both your existing rats and your new rats, a quarantine period of 4 weeks is strongly recommended before introductions are attempted. This helps prevent the spread of potential illness and allows your new rats time to settle into their new environment.

 

Rehoming Policy

If at any point you are no longer able to care for your rat, StormHaven Rattery asks that you contact us first. We will assist in finding an appropriate solution whenever possible.

Our rats may not be sold, bred, or rehomed without communication with the rattery.

 

Communication & Respect

We value clear, respectful communication throughout the adoption process. Our goal is to work collaboratively with adopters to ensure a positive experience for everyone involved.
