Health Guarantee & Quarantine Policy

At StormHaven Rattery, we stand behind the health and temperament of our rats. The following policies outline the terms and conditions of our health guarantees.

 

Documentation Requirements

To maintain the validity of all guarantees, adopters must provide:

• Video and/or photographs of the quarantine setup

• A copy of veterinary paperwork from the initial wellness exam

Failure to provide required documentation will void all guarantees.

 

180-Day Congenital & Temperament Guarantee

StormHaven provides a 180-day (6-month) guarantee covering:

• Congenital defects

• Hereditary conditions

• Severe temperament defects deemed unsound by a licensed veterinarian

 

This guarantee begins on the date the rat leaves the rattery.

Reports of congenital or hereditary concerns must be made within the 180-day period. Claims submitted after 180 days are not eligible.

 

14-Day Sickness Guarantee

StormHaven provides a 14-day health guarantee covering general illness, provided:

• Proper quarantine protocols are followed

• A veterinary examination is completed within the required timeframe

 

This 14-day guarantee covers:

• Illness requiring veterinary care

• External parasites (mites, lice, fleas)

 

Important Exceptions:

• Upper Respiratory Infections (URIs) are not covered at any time.

• Tumors are not covered at any time.

• Delivery via third-party ground transport voids the 14-day sickness guarantee.

 

All illnesses requiring medical care must be reported within 14 days of purchase.

 

Quarantine Requirements (Mandatory)

All rats adopted from StormHaven must be quarantined for no less than 4 weeks (28 days) for guarantees to remain valid.

Proper quarantine means:

• Newly adopted rats are housed only with each other

• They are kept in a completely separate room

• No contact with other rodents or pets

 

Failure to follow strict quarantine protocol voids all guarantees.

 

Veterinary Examination Requirement

All adopted rats must receive a veterinary wellness exam within:

• 14 days of purchase

• An additional 4-day grace period is provided for rats delivered via transport

 

Documentation from the veterinarian must be provided to validate any guarantee claims.

StormHaven reserves the right to contact the attending veterinarian to confirm medical findings.

 

Replacement Policy

If a licensed veterinarian determines within the guarantee period that a rat is:

• Unsound due to hereditary or congenital health issues (within 180 days), or

• Affected by a qualifying illness or parasites (within 14 days, if applicable),

 

The adopter may request a replacement rat of equal value.

StormHaven Rattery:

• Does not issue refunds

• Does not pay veterinary expenses

• Only provides replacements of equal value

 

Important Handling Reminder

For the safety and well-being of your rats:

• Do not allow children or adults to poke at rats through the cage bars.

• Do not feed rats through the bars of the cage.

 

Improper handling can contribute to stress and behavioral issues.
